Frequently asked questions
I can’t connect. What should I check?
When a connection fails, Fold Terminal shows the likely cause and the steps to fix it. The most common ones:
Key not accepted: add your public key to ~/.ssh/authorized_keys on the server. In the app: Keys › your key › Copy authorized_keys line. Permissions must be chmod 700 ~/.ssh && chmod 600 ~/.ssh/authorized_keys.
Connection refused: SSH isn’t running, or it listens on another port. On the server, check sudo systemctl status ssh.
Timed out: the server is off, or you need to be on its network or VPN (for example Tailscale) first.
It says the host key changed and won’t connect.
If a server’s key changes, Fold Terminal blocks the connection to protect you. If you know the server was rebuilt, open the host, tap Forget saved host key, connect again and check the new fingerprint.
How does it work on iPhone Duo?
Half-fold the phone for laptop mode: the terminal on top, a Mac keyboard and trackpad below. Use the three icons in the status bar to switch the bottom half between the Mac keyboard, a big trackpad and the iOS keyboard. Folded, the cover screen shows your servers, quick connect and pinned one-tap actions, and your sessions survive every fold.
Does Ask send my commands to the cloud?
No. Ask and Explain Output use Apple’s on-device model only, with no Private Cloud Compute. Voice input uses on-device speech recognition, and the audio is never stored or sent. The privacy policy has the details.
What does it cost?
Every feature is free for 7 days. After that, choose the yearly subscription, which renews automatically, or a one-time Lifetime purchase.
How do I manage or cancel my subscription?
Subscriptions are handled by Apple, not inside Fold Terminal. On your iPhone open Settings › Apple Account › Subscriptions, tap Fold Terminal, and cancel. Refunds are handled by Apple at reportaproblem.apple.com.
Terms of Use
Purchases are subject to Apple’s standard Terms of Use (EULA).
